Do you need an agency to use Lovable, or can you do it alone?
Yes, you can use Lovable alone for an MVP or a prototype: that is the platform's promise. An agency pays off once a contractual deadline, a sensitive backend (auth, payments), an SEO/GEO requirement or a real business is at stake — our packages range from €990 (48h) to €10,000 (96h).
| Criterion | DIY (alone) | Freelance | Agency (Lovable Web Agency) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting budget | €0 (free plan) to a few tens of €/month | €500 to €5,000 depending on profile | €990 to €10,000 excl. VAT, fixed price |
| Delivery time | Variable, several days to weeks | 1 to 3 weeks generally | 48h to 96h guaranteed |
| Project risk | Fully borne by the project owner | Borne by a single contributor, variable availability | Shared, methodology and contractual commitment |
| Required internal workload | High (learning + execution) | Medium (steering + back-and-forth) | Low (initial brief + validations) |
| Complex backend (auth, payments) | Possible but risky without skill | Depends on the freelancer | Included (Supabase, Stripe) in Pro and Scale packages |
In which cases is DIY more than enough?
For a personal MVP, an internal prototype, a side project, a blog or a test page, Lovable alone is perfect: the learning curve is low and a first visible result arrives within hours, with no prior development skill required.
You retain full control over code, timeline and budget, and only pay the platform subscription (Lovable offers a free plan and paid plans starting at a few tens of euros per month, see lovable.dev/pricing, accessed 2026-07-29).
DIY is also the right choice to learn: testing ideas, understanding the technical vocabulary (RLS, edge functions, design tokens) before possibly delegating a more ambitious version to a professional.
In which cases do you NOT need an agency?
Let's be honest: an agency is not always justified. If your project is an idea test with no marketing budget, a disposable landing page for a one-month campaign, a low-stakes internal tool used by 2-3 people, or if you already have in-house technical skill and available time, DIY remains the rational choice.
Likewise, if your budget is strictly under €500 or the project has no market validation yet (you don't know if customers exist), it is often wiser to validate the idea alone before investing in professional support.
A serious agency will tell you so directly during an audit: in our 2025-2026 practice (scope: initial conversations with prospects), roughly one contact in five is redirected toward autonomous use of Lovable, for lack of a real need for support at that stage.
When does an agency become profitable?
A marketing site for a real business, an app with authentication and payments, a project with a tight contractual deadline, SEO/GEO requirements, or regulatory compliance (health, finance) justify an agency: it brings scoping, secure architecture and a dated delivery commitment.
Agency cost is recouped through time saved, mistakes avoided (poorly configured RLS policies, secrets exposed client-side, degraded performance, broken heading hierarchy) and the quality of the final deliverable.
On our projects delivered in 2025-2026 (scope: Starter to Scale packages), the average time between validated brief and go-live is 48h to 96h depending on the package, versus several weeks of trial and error alone for a non-technical profile on a comparable project.
Which agency packages fit which need?
Lovable Web Agency offers three fixed-price packages delivered within a guaranteed timeframe: Starter at €990 excl. VAT (48h, up to 5 pages) for a simple showcase site, Pro at €2,500 excl. VAT (72h, up to 12 pages) for a site with a light backend, and Scale at €10,000 excl. VAT (96h, unlimited pages) with one month of support for an app or SaaS.
The package choice mainly depends on the number of pages, the presence of a backend (Supabase, payments, roles) and whether post-delivery support is needed.
Is there a hybrid option between DIY and agency?
More and more founders build their product solo with Lovable, then call in an agency for a focused audit: Supabase architecture, RLS security, performance and SEO/GEO before a public launch.
This combines the low cost of DIY during the exploration phase with a professional guarantee at the critical moment of going to production, without handing over the entire project from the start.
How do risk and internal workload influence the choice?
The higher the business risk (sensitive data, payments, public brand image) and the lower the available internal workload capacity, the more relevant an agency becomes: it absorbs technical risk and frees up time to run the business rather than the code.
Conversely, low risk (internal project, no sensitive data) combined with available internal capacity (time, technical appetite) argues for DIY, at least initially.
How to decide in practice?
Hire an agency if: you have a business deadline, payments or sensitive user data, an ambitious SEO/GEO target, or no time to learn the platform.
Stay solo if: you are prototyping, learning Lovable, your project is personal or internal with no date constraint, or your budget is very limited and the need is not yet validated.

Related questions
- Can I start alone then hire an agency later?
- Yes, code generated by Lovable is exportable and can be taken over by an agency at any time, without rebuilding everything from scratch.
- Can an agency train my team instead of delivering fully turnkey?
- Yes, the Scale package includes 90 days of technical support and 3 months of maintenance, enabling a skills transfer to the internal team after delivery.
- What exactly does an agency deliver compared to DIY?
- Scoping, design system, secure backend integrations, production deployment and, depending on the package, training and support — see our methodology.
- Is a freelancer a good compromise?
- It depends on their availability and specific Lovable experience; the main risk is dependency on a single person with no backup or guaranteed deadline.
- How do I know if my project has a real SEO/GEO requirement?
- If your traffic must come mainly from search (Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity) rather than paid or direct channels, the requirement is real and justifies support.
- Is the Pro package enough for a backend with authentication?
- Yes, the Pro package (€2,500 excl. VAT, 72h, up to 12 pages) covers a standard Supabase integration with auth and roles; more complex projects fall under the Scale package.
